We are a new group of woodcarvers of all skill levels who want to advance our skills and help others.

We are meeting at Wood it is at 2267 w. Gowan, North Las Vegas on the first Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. .
And at Woodworkers Emporium at 5461 Arville in Las Vegas, Nevada on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m..

                                                        WOODRARVERS OF LAS VEGAS


Yesterday we had our February monthly meeting at Woodworkers Emporium with 12 members and one guest. Dennis helped any member who had questions about sharpening and he showed the things he uses . Thanks Dennis!

Welcome back to our master cottonwood bark carver Bob ! we have missed his talents as you can see in this "cottonwood condo" he has just started.

Richard , Sheri, and Dennis were heavy in thought with their bird carvings.

Richard shared this Mountain bluebird study stick.

And another carving from  Rod a  pair of Bison.

                                                WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS



We had our second meeting of 2019 yesterday at Woodworkers Emporium with 9 members and 2 visitors in attendance. Welcome to new member Dean ( from the sun-city woodworkers group).

We also had a visitor looking for a good place to buy basswood. We informed him that Wood it is is hosting a vendor at  her shop on March 2nd.

                           First ,here is another "Red Fox" carving from Rod. Carved in Mahogany.

Next Jerry finished another 2 projects in the last 2 weeks.

                           I never know what takes Jerry so long to finish something.

           And Dean our newest member brought some of his beautiful work to share.



Sorry to say I didn't get a picture of Sheri and Richard doing their power carving of birds.

                                              WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS




             We finished 2018 with a nice size group of 11 members and three guests.

             Our popularity has spread to Lumsden Saskatchewan with a visit from Randy Ball, and

             2 ladies from Las Vegas visiting us.

             We also have a new member from Henderson , Richard . Here a two photos of his

              masterful work. Welcome Richard.



                      In honor of the Rodeo final here in Las Vegas , Rod brought his bucking cowboy.

     

                           Jock shared 2 masks he acquired when he lived in Costa Rica.

                                And finally Dennis was approached about our carvers doing some carving in

                                cancer patients wig stands. Any takers? Here is a sample of one that is

                                 painted.

                                                   WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS




Yesterday we had our second meeting of November at Woodworkers Emporium with 11 members
including one new member. Welcome Mark!

Rod brought  his latest Lady project. I am sure we all wish we had his talent for ladies. I know I do.


And speaking of Ladies  Sheri and Liz both treated us to what they are both working on.
Sheri carving on her wood turned bowl and Liz her Christmas presents.


And last but now least Jock finished a beautiful set of salad bowl utensils

                                               WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS



Last Saturday at Woodworkers Emporium we had our bimonthly meeting with 8 members and 0ne new member. Welcome Lou!


                                             Jim brought in his polar bear. Looking good buddy!


                                        Rod shared an alabaster frog he had power carved.

And Jerry showed off his new scroll saw talents with this beautiful cross.

                                                WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS



Our bi-monthly meeting was held yesterday at "Wood It Is" in North Las Vegas.

We had 13 members with two new members Megan and Valeria. Welcome ladies!
Megan is a brand new carver with her big brother Michael and Dad Philip showing her the way.
Valeria is a master carver already doing relief carvings. I for one know I can learn from her!

                                         
                                           Rod brought in a buffalo he is currently working on.



                                      And Jerry shared  his latest 2  relief carvings with us.




With the current heat in Las Vegas we did end a little early yesterday.

                                          WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS


On another Hot Saturday in July we has our second July meeting at Woodworkers Emporium with

10 members in attendance. We welcomed one new carver in Dennis Wainwright.

Rod drove 20 hours home from his annual woodcarving week long class in Nebraska to be with us.

Here is his class project---


  Quite a nice butternut carving for 5 days.

Dennis shared a woodcarving he was given 30 years ago from a friend he worked with.

It is carved from 1 toothpick with a sharpened needle. All the pieces work and there is a ball in a

cage  in the chain.

                                                WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS




Today we had our monthly meeting at Wood It Is with 9 members and 1 visitor.  Liz bought her

Mother "to meet all her Grandpas'". And for a lesson on carving faces before she heads off  to

Ghana on her mission in August.

Also whenever I think I can carve I see another beautiful carved  piece , and I think someday

maybe I could that. Here is an example that Dennis is turning and carving for a table base for his  
wife.

Check out he got all that flower in 3/32" of depth.

                                            WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS


Yesterday we had our second monthly meeting down at Woodworkers Emporium with 9 

members in attendance.  Three of our newer members brought lots of great questions and

enthusiasm.



Rod has finishes his excellent relief carving of  a $50 gold coin front and a $1 Sacgawea coin.




And Erv Tuma brought his Stellars Jay to share with us.

                                                   WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS


Our second meeting of 2018 started with 12 members in attendance. And our first lesson about

carving a burrowing owl taught by Barry. He will continue at both "Wood it is" and Woodworkers

Emporium.  Members who are not carving the burrowing owl REMENBER the regular meeting is

still going on.  So always bring your projects and questions.


It was wonderful to see Bob again with his now laminated friendship cane.
Jerry brought his latest 2 projects with inlaid copper. Nice job Jerry.

                                   


  Don't forget we now meet twice per month, and check your email for the 2018 membership photo.

                                                   WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS



                    We welcomed in 2018 with a great attendance of 12 members at Wood It Is.




                            Rod brought two of his tortoises (one bashful and one curious).
            Discussion and excitement is growing about the starting of our group, burrowing owl class

that will be taught by Barry. The class will start at out next meeting and will continue at BOTH

Wood It Is and Woodworkers Emporium.


          After the meeting Dennis, Rod, and myself were invited to Barry's home to see a few of his

beautiful bird carvings. Here is a sample of his work. His craftsmanship and painting ability equals

the best I have seen. What do you think ?

Our last meeting of 2017 was our largest with 14 in attendance. One visitor, one new member looking for advice, and a few members we have not seen in quite awhile. Welcome to all who made it.


                  Rod,  Berry. and Sherri were discussing birds and the 2018  Burrowing Owl project.

                                              WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS



Todays meeting at "Wood It Is" had a nice attendance of 8 members.  Barry discussed his upcoming
class on carving an owl. The class will start at our meeting on the third Saturday of January, the 20th.
If you are planning to do this project you will need a 4"X4"X8" piece of basswood. This will take a while to complete and we will continue at every meeting until its completed.


Rod brought two of his Christmas projects and Jerry brought his new carved butter knife and spatula.


Lupe had the opportunity to attend and practice her chip carving. She had the quote of the day .
"Woodcarving is like a knitting club"  ( But our needles are sharp}. What a great gal!
