March 2015 meeting -----------

On a record warm day here in Las Vegas we had another great monthly meeting at Woodworkers Emporium.

Our meeting consisted of  5 regular members, one visitor and one new member to our club. Welcome Devin Talley.

Rod informed us that he has been in contact with the gentleman from Montana ( I think) that brought a car full of basswood for sale to the November meeting. He is coming back to Las Vegas soon and would like to know if we are interested in basswood in any special sizes.  Rod said he has 6"x6 "and some 8"x8" basswood.  If you have any special orders email the club and we will pass it on to him for pricing or availability.

We were treated to four new finished projects.  The first two were done by Rod of a mule bust and a walnut horse bust (from wood he bought at the February meeting).

Not to be outdone we were also treated to Dennis's beautiful walnut rose.

And finally Randy brought in his newly finished road runner.

Happy 2015 Woodcarvers of Las Vegas !

Our first monthly meeting of the year was last Saturday at Woodworkers Emporium
Our meeting was attended by 5 members and 3 visitors who happened to be visiting the store and admired our new display case.

Our meeting started in the parking lot with us all enjoying the treasures Dennis brought. A woman had contacted him about some wood she wanted to donate to the club. He was good enough to pick it all up and bring it to the meeting.

There were wood rough outs of fish and birds, Many wood branches, wood slabs, and Manzanita wood root burl.
THANK YOU DENNIS !

After we all loaded our treasures we went inside where Rod and Scott shared their latest carvings. Rod had a wooden dollar and a new nude. Sorry Scott that my phone died before I could get a photo of your new caricature.

Hope to see you all next month.

October Meeting

Our regularly scheduled meeting was held at Woodworkers Emporium on Arville here in Las Vegas last Saturday the 25th. Unfortunately, the only "regular" members of the group was Dennis and myself!  We were well attended by the woodcarving group from Anthem (Henderson area) who came to visit.  They meet in their clubhouse every Tuesday and Saturday and welcome visitors.  Contact either Dennis or Randy for times and location.

The time was spent making chips …..

and making sawdust.

With a fair amount of hints and story telling thrown in for good measure!

Our woodcarving group meets every 4th. Saturday of the month so do mark your calendars and set up a reminder in electronic device of your choice so you can come to the scheduled meetings.  The time is 9:30 am until 11:30.  If you haven't had the chance to respond to the questions that Randy sent out earlier please remember to do that so that he and Dennis know the direction you'd like the group to take.
