Jerry brought some of his carvings to share as well.

Len Black will be doing his chip carving demo at the February 2017 meeting. He is getting prepared and the weather might be better.

Finally Rod was inspired with Dennis's out house.  He carved one with a cowboy.

Another great meeting with one new member in attendance. That gave us another meeting with 10 carvers.
First while I have you reading, some members have asked me if I could supply them with another members phone number. I only have a very few . If you would like to supply me with your phone number to add to the list please email it back to me.

Also A few members have requested to be dropped from our email list for various reasons. If you no longer wish to receive our emails you can also let me know.

Next Len has finished his move from Indiana and is now here permanently. He is planning to do his chip carving demo at the January 2017 meeting.  More information to follow.

OUR DECEMBER MEETING WILL BE ON THE 3RD SATURDAY, THE 17TH BECAUSE OF THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY.

           WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS

Well our September meeting was another good one with 11 members in attendance. We learned that Woodworkers Emporium will be opening at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday , so it was decided to start our meetings at 8:30 instead of 9:00. This is just when we can start,( as one member reminded us he get us at 8:00 and will be there a.s.a.p.. )

First here is the picture that I promised to get from last month of Rod's big horn sheep.

Again Bob had more of his great cottonwood bark carvings.

We also had 2  members return after missing the summer. And Len brought more chip carvings.

Our new member Jerry brought some of his work to share with us.

Again as I said great meeting. Hope to see you next month. And "Thank you Dennis" for bringing the tags and wood burner to make our name tags.

                                             WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS

Our May meeting was a small group, but hopefully we were able to spark an interest in a new carver.
We had a visit from John and his grandfather to see if John ( a grade school student) has any interest in woodcarving.
Dennis loaned him a knife and he was given an assignment to carve an egg.

Len was in town for a visit and was able to attend. Hopefully he will be a full time resident soon.

Bob brought his homemade carving table. Here is a photo and print of his cool ( carve anywhere) table.

We were also treated by Dennis to see his floral creation he is carving for every doorway arch in his home. Just the small leaves will require almost 300 hand carved leaves.  Good luck my friend.

Bob also traded me one of his cottonwood bark houses for my friendship cane. Thanks again Bob.

I hope you all are having a great Memorial Day week end.

                                         WOODWORKERS OF LAS VEGAS

Well our April meeting was last Saturday, with one new member joining our group. Welcome Ben.

I had proposed that we do a "friendship cane" project. It is a slow project as every member has to carve a block for everyone's cane. This could take 10 months , if there were 10 members and we each exchanged one per month. Well Bob took the bull by the horns and started his cane, even doing the first 3 blocks  himself and turning the handle and bottom.

Mike brought the "Woodcarvers of Las Vegas" sign back with his new addition to it.
Another great job.

And Rod brought a sample of how to carve horses for us all to admire.
What else can I say but judge for yourself.

Woodworkers, start your canes. The plan calls for a 5/8" doll rod and pre drilled blocks
 2"x 2"x 3".
See you next month at Dennis"s shop. Woodworkers Emporium will be closed for Memorial Day.
See you the 25th.

                                              WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS

Our March meeting was last Saturday with an attendance of nine. Woodworkers Emporium were nice enough to offer us some donated carving tools and a cabinet upstairs to keep them and anything we would like to store there.

Bob brought some more of his beautiful cottonwood bark carvings.

Dennis borrowed a bear carving from Len for a present for his daughter-in-law.

And Scott brought a carving that he had started on a CNC machine. He left the rough carving with

enough bark that looked like curly hair. And he also was painting his latest cowboy bronco rider.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN APRIL.

                                         WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS -----

on for the trim work in his house. ( 60 down -80 to go). Dennis and I are also working on 4 piece roses.

I brought my quail that Rod just advised me on. His is almost finished with the one he is carving.
At one point we all asked Scott what the h--- he was doing and he said making HUBCAPS.
He was , for his cart. ( check the faces).

                                                    WOODCARVERS OF LAS VEGAS

Welcome to 2016 with our first meeting of the year. We had a nice attendance of 8 members and 3 visitors. There was a lot of discussion about knife sharpening techniques with Scott doing demonstrations on his method. ( too bad it was not on his knives). He was generous enough to do 2 for Randy and 1 for Mike.

Mike brought in 2 knives he had recently made and 1 blank blade he had just purchased. They were very reasonably priced from $17-$25 per sharpened blades, ready for handles. The company's name if shown on this card. DEEPWOODS VENTURES.

Rod also treated our visitors with his lady faces/ dragons carving he is working on. Another beautiful piece.

Hope to see you next month.
